Position Summary
The Sales Manager is responsible for negotiations with customers, managing accounts, closing the sale for all conventions, meetings group travel, and room bookings. This position involves telemarketing, email, direct mail, and uses a variety of other means to expand client base in assigned territories/industries. This role solicits and develops new business (local, statewide, national, and international) and provides guidance for Conference Service Managers requiring assistance. The Sales Manager is assigned to cover one of the following markets: government, non-profits, schools, scouts, domestic tour, international, 4-H, and religious groups.


Responsibilities
• Serve as the representative to prospective clients and customers who need guest rooms, meeting space, tour services and catering, and other related services.
Achieve Sales Goals and Objectives
• Initiate new sales, solicit leads, make sales proposals and presentations, attends conferences, sales mission and trade shows, entertain and maintain clients, determine rates and negotiates contracts.
• Work as part of the sales and marketing team to steward new business development projects.
• Develop plans and strategies to meet or exceeds revenue goals.
• Work as a part of the sales and planning team to most efficiently utilize space.
• Conduct property site inspections with potential customers.
• Attend market-specific meetings and conferences (ASAE, PMPI, HSMAI, DCMA, etc.)
Attend Conferences & Trade Shows
• Travel to conventions and conferences to staff a sales booth and sell to both prescheduled appointments and general consumers.
• Manage collateral materials and sales displays while traveling.

Analyze Account & Marketing Activities
• Analyze cost effectiveness and return on investment for each trade show/conference.
• Work with Center Marketing Manager to draft and approve market-specific messages and content.


Qualifications
• Associate’s degree in Business Administration, hospitality mangement, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
• 2-4+ years experience in hospitality sales management, or related experience.
• Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook.
• Proficiency in OPERA software or related packages.
• Able to perform in a team-oriented environment.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.
• Certified Hospitality Sales Executive or Certified Hospitality Sales Professional (preferred)

• This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
• This position largely requires a person to stand and walk for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
• This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
• Basic math skills needed to calculate change (money), formulas, commissions, discounts, etc.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
Travel Requirements:
Travel (local, state, national, international) may be necessary, up to 50-60% of the time (approximately 15 days per month). Would require travel by air, car, rail, or bus.
