Sunbury Bible Church (SBC) was founded in 1939. It is located in rural central Pennsylvania and has an average attendance of 225; it has an active Sunday School and Awana program, youth programs, and several active Bible study groups and is the home to Sunbury Christian Academy, a thriving Pre-K - 12 school of 165 students. Sunbury Bible is an independent Bible church, a member of I.F.C.A. and is focused on putting Christ first, which is exemplified in the church’s vision statement; “Sunbury Bible Church exists to give all glory to God, by unitedly worshiping Him in spirit and truth. Empowered by the Gospel, we will disciple believers to Christ-like maturity, equip them to reach out to all people in love and proclaim His salvation both near and far”.
The church saw the departure of its senior pastor over a year ago and has spent the last year praying and seeking God’s direction for the church. Sunbury Bible is an elder led congregation and there is a strong desire to follow God and in taking the gospel to our community and to the world. The church is now seeking a new senior pastor to help the church move forward to accomplish God’s purpose, through following the vision He has given to us.
The Senior Pastor of SBC serves as the spiritual leader of the church with a focus on carrying out God’ s vision for the church, providing teaching and instruction to the congregation and helping to develop the elders, so that they can meet the needs of the congregation. In addition he will be responsible for overseeing the pastoral staff and providing spiritual guidance to the leadership of the Sunbury Christian Academy.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working in a setting committed to reaching both believers and unreached people. The candidate will have a seminary degree and an advanced degree (M.A./M.Div.) in ministry or Bible training is preferred. He should have at least 5 years’ experience working as an effective leader of a ministry team, carrying out the vision of the ministry, teaching, training and preparing others for the work of the ministry. In addition he needs to have had a specific call to pastoral ministry and have a heart to see the body come to know Christ grow spiritually. The successful Senior Pastor candidate will have a proven record of being a gifted teacher, shepherd and communicator, with a willingness to work within an Elder led ministry. In addition, the individual should show outstanding interpersonal skills, authenticity, and an ability to connect well with people from all backgrounds and life stages.
