Job Description:

     The Director of the Horticulture, Landscaping and Turf Management Program is responsible for all aspects of the Horticulture Program to include teaching horticulture theory, covering topics such as:  Arboriculture, Herbaceous Ornamentals, Landscape Design and Construction, Botany, Woody Plant Identification, Plant Propagation, Turf Establishment and Maintenance, and Nursery Management.  Theoretical studies are reinforced by substantial, practical lab time in which students are required to complete many different campus installation, construction, and maintenance projects.  Instruction also covers hand tools, power equipment, specialized machinery, and vehicles, including chain saws, leaf blowers, tampers, skid-steer loaders, tractors, carts, and trucks.  The Director supervises the program assistant and oversees the instruction and training done by that position. The Director’s instructional duties encompass classroom lecturing, developing and updating curriculum, conducting regular testing and evaluation of student progress, issuing necessary syllabi and course outlines, and supervising student workers in selected campus construction and maintenance projects.  The Director should be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). All instructors are encouraged to assist students in adjusting to the established disciplinary standards and in internalizing the vital moral and ethical values emphasized at Williamson.

     The Program Director for Horticulture, Landscaping & Turf Management must have an Associate degree in horticulture with at least ten years of progressively responsible trade experience to the level of job site supervisor.  Bachelor or Master’s degree preferred.
