Job Description

JOB TITLE:  Clinical Coordinator

Department: Therapeutic Group Home

Hours: Full Time Salaried – Exempt

SUMMARY:

The Clinical Coordinator is a management/clinical position responsible for the overall operation and management of the clinical services and therapeutic milieu of the Therapeutic Group Home (TGH), including clinical supervision/consultation to clinical and residential staff as needed per COMAR regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Oversee the delivery of clinical services to residents and assure maintenance of the therapeutic milieu in order to foster achievement of each resident’s treatment goals in accordance with COMAR Regulations.

• Ensure the safety and humane, individualized, and appropriate treatment of all residents.
• The development and implementation of treatment procedures, including admission and discharge procedures, Individual Treatment Plans (ITPs) and ITP reviews, and treatment team meetings.
• Promote positive, productive communication with and between supervised staff and with administrative personnel.
• Assist with the development and implementation of treatment team models with staff by conducting team meetings and team building activities as needed.
• Monitor performance and provide annual reviews of the Mental Health Professionals/Case Coordinators.
• Provide individual and family therapy sessions when appropriate.

2. Supervise the Mental Health Professionals/Case Coordinators (MHP/CC) through oversight of the MHP/CC s’ duties to:

• Follow and implement treatment procedures, including admission and discharge procedures, develop and implement ITPs and ITP reviews, and participate in treatment team meetings.
• Integrate appropriate therapeutic, educational, and family goals and services into the resident’s ITP.
• Provide individual and group counseling sessions including the appropriate type and frequency of sessions and the proper documentation within prescribed deadlines.
• Handle emergency clinical situations.
• Coordinate ancillary services included in the ITP for each resident, such as additional group therapy, psychoeducational groups, specialized individual therapy, medication services, health promotion and training.

3. Work with the Residential Supervisor to:

• Ensure Residential Care Specialists (RCS) of the TGH are properly trained and supported to meet the social, emotional, educational, physical, and spiritual needs of the residents under their care per COMAR regulations, Cedar Ridge Policies and Procedures, and each resident’s ITP.

• Develop and schedule orientation and ongoing training of RCS including formal training and on the job, in the unit training and observation, as per COMAR regulations and Cedar Ridge Policies and Procedures.

• Spend at least one hour per week in each unit, and at least one weekend day per month in cottages, helping to support RCS and establishing a relationship with the residents. 

• Offer help, advice, empathy, and encouragement to RCS and residents for the development of a therapeutic environment.

• Attend and participate in all treatment team meetings and meet with lead RCS at least once a week.

• Monitor and coordinate the maintenance and housekeeping of each unit, and the health, dietary, and safety needs of the residents with the appropriate staff members of the TGH as per COMAR regulations and Cedar Ridge Policies and Procedures.

• Support Residential Management Team (RMT). : Work with the Residential Director and Residential Supervisor to interview and hire RCS. Work with the Residential Director and Residential Supervisor to interview and admit residents to the TGH. Act as a liaison between the Child Care Staff and the RMT as needed. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures of the agency.

• Handle emergency residential situations: Provide crisis intervention for residents and support for RCS as needed. Report any incidents of suspected child abuse immediately to the Cedar Ridge RMT.

4. Supervise with the Residential Director the nurses, transitional education services staff, and office support staff as related to the TGH, through oversight of their duties to:

• Nurses: Integrate the appropriate medical services for each resident based on the resident's ITP. Establish protocols for medical and psychiatric emergencies and crisis response plans. Develop and maintain the schedule for the consulting psychiatrist and psychologist.
• Transitional education services staff: Integrate the appropriate educational services for each resident based on the resident's ITP.
• § Office support staff:  Assist in the overall operation of the TGH through the maintenance of files, data collection, schedule appointments, support for staff scheduling, etc.

5. Community involvement:

• Interact with the community in order to assure a positive reputation for the facility, and smooth working relationships with associated agencies.
• Conduct workshops or address relevant groups in order to disseminate the program philosophy and techniques to other organizations or interested personnel.

6. Professionalism and Professional Development:

• Maintain professional, ethical attitudes and behavior; 
• Maintain appropriate continuing education units (CEU’s) for licensure and ongoing professional development; 
• Report alleged or suspected child abuse or neglect to the appropriate Department of Social Services as per Cedar Ridge Policies and Procedures;
• Maintain confidentiality of each resident and his family’s private health information within the bounds of professional standards, state and federal regulations, and the team model of confidentiality at Cedar Ridge;
• Participate in weekly clinical supervision individually and collectively to enhance communication and deepen professional knowledge and skills.

7. Other duties as assigned by the Residential Director

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

1)    Master or doctoral degree in social work, counseling, marriage and family, or psychology and license to practice independently in the State of Maryland required for this position. 

• Applicants licensed in other states or countries must be eligible for licensure in the State of Maryland, and practice under the guidelines of the State of Maryland until licensure is received.
• Currently this position requires a LCSW-C or LCPC license.

2)    Must demonstrate the capacity to understand youth with severe emotional disturbance with a variety of problems and to develop further knowledge and skills for working with youth who are admitted to the Therapeutic Group Home.

3)    Must have two years experience in residential child care, one of which must have been in a supervisory position.

4)    Must be able to withstand the work and pressures of treating youth with severe emotional disturbance with a variety of problems in numerous settings such as individual and group counseling, crisis situations, cottage activities, etc.

5)    Must be available and willing to handle occasional crisis situations outside normal office hours.

6)    Must have organizational abilities and detail orientation sufficient to organize and complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner – within established deadlines.

7)    Must have an understanding of computer technology sufficient to make effective use of technology to complete tasks, with emphasis on utilizing MS Office and other Windows Based programs for this purpose.

8)    Must accept and affirm a Judeo-Christian world view in both personal and professional life. This affirmation includes agreement with the Cedar Ridge statement of faith, the personal practice of spiritual disciplines, and behaviors consistent with traditional moral values.

9)    Must be able to subscribe to the American Association of Christian Counselors Code of Ethics.

10) Must be 21 years of age or older.

11) Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
