Job Description:

The Youth Ministry Director will provide spiritual leadership to youth by reflecting personally, and expressing relationally, God’s love in a dynamic, loving, Bible-based student ministry setting. As a leader of the student ministry team, he or she will also work closely with parents and youth ministry volunteers to create a welcoming environment where young people will thrive and grow. As a member of church staff, the Youth Director will work alongside fellow staff members to pursue the church’s mission, in keeping with our culture and values.

The Youth Director will report directly to the Student Pastor and work closely with him to oversee ministry to local 7th-12th graders. The position is expected to require 45-55 hours per week, and will include, but is not limited to, the following essential job functions:

• Shepherd 7th-12th grade students in the context of the church’s stated mission (To glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ in Wayne and beyond) and in alignment with the church-wide discipleship process (Love God, Love Others, Get Equipped, Serve the World)

o Plan and lead weekly Sunday and mid-week meetings, mission trips, retreats and other special events

o Provide regular one-on-one and small group discipleship with students

o Prepare and teach gospel-centered lessons to a diverse audience

o Be a missionary to young people by sharing the gospel with students who do not know Jesus

o Raise up student leaders within the ministry

• Provide leadership for the Student Ministry Team (SMT) of adult volunteers who work with youth

o Recruit, connect with, coach, and care for servant leaders

o Plan and lead monthly SMT Huddles

o Conduct background checks on all individuals working with students

• Minister to families of 7th-12th graders

o Build relationships with parents and counsel as needed

o Provide parenting resources and direction to families

o Attend community parent seminars on teenage issues

• Minister to the local community and beyond

o Build relationships in the community

o Partner with key people in Wayne (e.g., school officials, coaches, etc.)

• Communicate and Coordinate

o Communicate regularly with parents, students, & SMT volunteers via the weekly email, webpage, and social media, as needed

o Work closely with staff and lay colleagues to ensure that the youth ministry is complementing and not competing with other ministries

o Oversee the Youth Ministry Budget

o Delegate select tasks to the ministry coordinator, as appropriate

o Hire, shepherd, and develop summer interns

• A personal and maturing relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ

• A minimum 2-3 years of experience in a relevant field either as a staff member or an accomplished volunteer with lots of responsibility

• Bachelor’s degree, required

• A degree in a relevant field preferred (Education, Bible, or Youth Ministry), preferred

• Demonstrated passion for sharing Christ with students with a proven ability to communicate with both churched and un-churched students

• Prior experience leading and developing student & volunteer leaders

• Proficiency with various media, including audio and video production, social media and multimedia projects

• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint

• Experience working in a multicultural environment, preferred

• Agreement with all aspects of Church of the Saviour’s Statement of Faith

• An ability and readiness to be a member of Church of the Saviour.
