About the Position:

The Director of Contemporary Worship Ministries is responsible for overseeing the Contemporary Worship Teams of the church, which include but are not limited to a Saturday night contemporary band, a Sunday morning contemporary choir plus band, and a vibrant youth band. The Director of Contemporary Worship Ministries should live with a passion to see believers growing together in Jesus Christ. This person will build strong relationships within the community surrounding the church and will develop services and programs that reflect the needs and styles of that community. This person will have a strong and growing relationship with Christ and must be willing to share this with others.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the contemporary worship of the church in consultation and partnership with the Rector and others involved in the contemporary worship ministries of the church
  • Implement the vision, mission, and strategy in the worship area, crafting the themes for the service in conjunction with the Rector
  • Demonstrate a biblical and theological understanding of worship
  • Schedule and manage all musicians (instrumental and vocal) who lead in the contemporary worship services
  • Work with a team of staff and volunteers to plan a diverse range of worship settings
  • Demonstrate worship, vocal and instrumental team building: recruit, disciple, grow, and educate
  • Engage in the life of the church beyond music ministry through active participation in small groups and church-wide events
  • Supervise and schedule the media team including recruiting, training, and coaching of audio and video personnel
  • Oversee the Contemporary Music budget
  • Model Christian faith through actions and behaviors
  • Communicate effectively with all people in a variety of settings
  • Support other staff members in their ministry areas which may include attending youth events, participating in chapel services at our Day School, attending church retreats, providing media support, etc.
  • Willingness to get outside the church to meet with people in the community
  • Participate in the growth of worship services by meeting newcomers, following up with and getting to know people in the congregation, and helping people connect to the ministries of the church in meaningful ways
  • Other duties may be agreed to between the Director of Contemporary Worship Ministries and the Rector

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Significant musical proficiency demonstrated via experience with directing, singing, and playing an instrument in a church or similar environment
  • Knowledge of Christian music, especially current contemporary music
  • Experience with worship presentation software, especially ProPresenter
  • Strong planning and organizational abilities
  • Very high work ethic (an executor who makes things happen consistently)
  • Likeable and fun to be around
  • Ability to work well with a broad range of people
  • Ability to identify, develop, and empower leaders
